OVERALL POLICY
GETS Learning Officially Recommends Enrollment in and completion of ALL Levels (LEVEL 1-LEVEL 4). These four levels represent the core curriculum of our ESL learning system. The highest degree of proficiency and fluency in all aspects of language learning (i.e., vocabulary, grammar, conversation, reading, communicating, listening, speaking, etc.) will be best realized by completing all four of these levels.
We are so committed to this policy we are willing to discount level 2 by 25% if a student enrolls in level 1 and successfully completes it in 25 hours or less of computer time.
SCREENING AND TESTING
Even though we strongly recommend that all four levels be completed, we do recognize that some potential students may believe they are advanced enough to begin at a higher level. For these students, we have developed and series of tests designed to help the student makes an informed decision regarding their own education. Please remember that these tests serve as benchmarks and “recommendations” only.
THE PROCESS—SELF ASSESSMENT, INITIAL SCREENING, AND COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION
Students who believe they possess advanced knowledge of the English language and wish to begin their course of study at level 2 or higher will first complete a self assessment, a screening test, and then if necessary complete the Advanced English placement test.
SELF ASSESSMENT
See the Course Outlines below for more details on each level. These will help you to self assess your readiness for the GETS ESL learning program and to help determine whether to proceed with the online tests below.
SCREENING TEST
This is a test consisting of ten questions. You must answer all ten questions correctly to move forward. If you answer all ten questions correctly, you are eligible to take the Advanced English Placement Test.
ADVANCED ENGLISH PLACEMENT TEST
If you score 80% or above you may consider starting at Level 3 or Level 4. If you score
70%-79%, you may consider starting at Level 2 or Level 3. If you score 60%-69%, you may consider starting at Level 2. If you score less than 60%, you should start at Level 1.
