I just love the sounds of the birds in the morning. Everybody, I hope that you are well. My name is Christie-Anne and welcome to my channel Backpacking Bananas. I am currently based in Sydney. I have been for the past few months with my partner and we are full-time house sitters in Sydney. Meaning that we live in a variety of houses across Sydney taking over from pet owners, home owners, whenever they go away and they need their home and/or pet being looked after while they're away. I've made a whole video on house sitting and how to get into it and how we live which you can watch. But in this video, I thought it might just be fun to make a day in the life. Just what do I do day-to-day as someone who is self-employed in Sydney
and but also house sitting. And truth be told, with every house sit that we do, with every different suburb that we live in, with every different dog or pet that we look after, it can be so different. So, exhibit A, right now we are looking after a very old dog. She is almost 15 years old and so our morning walks look like this. She's very slow, she's very sniffy and that's exactly as the owner likes to walk her also and we try to keep to the dog's normal routines as much as possible. But also this dog in particular, she is so tired in the morning and she often doesn't even want to go out. So, I just take her for something very short in the morning but then in the afternoon when she's got
a lot more energy, we go off on a longer walk. I'm just in awe of this. This is actually our first time at Balmoral Beach. It's about 10-minute drive from where we're staying in Cremorne Point and we tried to drive over the other morning but when we came here, we realized it was all paid parking. But today we did a little bit more research, we parked up the road where we got some free parking. Normally, if we have like a fast-moving dog, we would combine the dog walking with getting our morning coffee and that's like our one luxury
every single day is getting a coffee out. Our dog at the moment is so slow-moving, we tend to do the walk with her and [snorts] then come out and do our own coffee finding adventure. No matter how far I'm intending on walking, it's always being recorded on the watch. We're just popping into Coles for a couple of bits. Right, it's time to actually start being productive. But before I get into some work, I want to show you something real quick which I have been revisiting this week. So, obviously in this day and age,
we should all know by now that our personal data is everywhere. We put our data into websites daily. But we often forget that this data is getting collected and it's getting sold by people called data brokers. But the problem is the more places that your data sits, the higher the chance of things like scams, spam, or even identity theft. Here's the thing, if they can't find you, then they can't harm you. So, I've been using Incogni again and thank you to Incogni for being the kind sponsors of today's video. And this basically just handles everything for you. On your behalf, it reaches out to these data broker sites and simply requests that all of your personal info gets removed. And thank
goodness this is not something that you actively have to manage. The last thing that I want is more admin. Incogni just runs in the background, it sends requests, it follows up without you needing to sit there and do it manually because realistically, I was not going to be reaching out to 50 plus companies. I wouldn't even know where to start on knowing all the companies I even had to reach out to. And when you actually log in and see how many places have your data, it's a bit of a reality check. Especially if you travel a lot, sign up to different platforms, Wi-Fi networks, shopping sites, booking sites all over the world, it really adds up over time. So, for me, it's more about just having
more control about what's out there. And with Incogni's unlimited plan, you will be able to gain access to the new custom removals feature. If you find your information online, simply submit the link and their privacy experts will take care of the rest. And you can take your personal data back with Incogni. Of course, I have a discount code for you which is backpacking or you can head straight to incogni.com/backpacking and that will get you 60% off their annual plans. Right, I should actually get some work done before this one starts judging me too much for sitting still for too long.
Like I'm pretty sure every single other woman in their 30s right now, I'm in my sourdough era and it is about day 10 or something of making a sourdough starter and trying to get that active. So, let's see how she's going today. Oh, she's a bit stinky. She's not looking very active. Oh, maybe she is. I'm going to give her a little feed. I'm referring to her as a her and I'm fully aware that a lot of people name their sourdough starters. I've not yet named mine. What do you think I should call her? Okay, I'm just going to feed her with some water. A lot of people measure. I just go off vibes and texture. Could that be where I'm going wrong? Perhaps.
Yeah, she good, she thick which is apparently what I want but what do I know? We're going to leave her covered but not airtight on the kitchen counter. When the sun's shining, it gets so hot in this um it's like a conservatory balcony room almost and it feels a little bit like a greenhouse when the sun is shining but it's absolutely glorious for the most part. I am starting to sweat a little bit. Okay, I've been working all afternoon and I haven't taken this one out. Come on in. I'm in the process of waiting for a cheaper flight back to Sydney.
Basically, I'm going back to London in July and I booked my flight to London and I managed to find a creative route which wasn't too expensive but obviously with the way the world is at the moment, a lot of the flights are very expensive and I haven't yet been able to find a cheap route from London back to Sydney. And so I have my Hopper notifications switched on. This is just not the best news. It says your one-way Sydney flight is 1,263 pounds. But we predict better prices in the future, keep waiting. Well, I hope so. I like to try if possible to find a one-way flight between London and Sydney for 600 pounds. I typically do not like to pay more than 1,200 pounds for the return flight. And I was successful on this on
the one-way from Sydney to London but yeah, those flights back are just so much. Is she doing a poo? Oh, she is. Okay, we can pick up the poo. big smell of And I've just had a message from Deanna, she's just finished work and because it's such a nice day, she said she wants to come to the pool that's nearby where we live in Cremorne Point and have a little afternoon sunbathing / swimming sesh which is so nice. I'll drop the dog back and then we'll go meet Deanna. Here she comes in the distance. I can see Deanna. It's going to be on that ferry coming right towards us there. It looks far but that will only take two minutes to get here from there.
I love picking people up from like transport terminals, be at the airport, be at the ferry, be at the bus terminal. I just think it's it's just so nice. There she is. Bye. There it goes. What an absolutely stunning evening. That was so nice to catch up with Deanna and I'm very excited because Ben has been making some dinner while we've been at the pool, I think he's made Mexican or something. Ah, look at this. Ben has
cooked up. I thought it was Mexican, but it's not. It's a Japanese curry with some meat and some rice. Smells so good. I heard you went for another walk while I was gone. Lucky dog. What are we watching on TV tonight? Narcos: Mexico? Is it a series? I don't often do this. However, I feel like we're going to Balmoral and the McCallum sea pool today. I didn't get as much work done as I normally would like to on a weekday. And so, I've had a shower and I'm back at the desk. I'm just going to do an hour or so of editing. I think it'll make me just feel a little bit better about just getting [__] done. And then I'll be off to bed, but I will end the vlog here. Thank you
so much for watching. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. If you want to see more days in the life of what it's like to be a full-time house sitter in Sydney, make sure you subscribe. And let me know in the comments because not every day that I will actually physically work from home. Often I'm going into the city, going into either the library or WeWork. So, if you would like to see what a day in the life looks like where I'm actually going into the city to get work done, then let me know. Don't forget to check out Incogni, and the link for that will be in the description. And I will see you guys in the next video.
