The excitement in Miami is palpable. Formula 1 has descended on the city for the first American Grand Prix of the season with a new found larger energized American fan base and even a new American team. If you're not already a Formula 1 fan, now might be a good time to become one. It's incredible. It's like a dream come true. I love the car. It's honestly so cool. The motor racing sport that sees drivers reach speeds of nearly 240 miles per hour has seen a surge in popularity in the US evident in the crowds gathered for the Miami Grand Prix one of three on American soil throughout the season. What does it feel like to have an American audience so energized around a race? I mean it's it's really cool. I think you know

until a few years ago we didn't have that much popularity in the US as a sport but it's really picked up a lot. I mean I think Americans they know how to have a good time. Good atmospheres, good fans, make a lot of noise. And that's what you want. Fans certainly make noise for these two. McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri consistently on the podium. A quirk of the sport while they are teammates, they're also rivals. It is a weird one. You know really there's really no other sport where you kind of have that kind of situation. Yeah. Where you're rivals but you also work together, you know, work for the team and we both want to stand on the top step of the podium every weekend but we also have to yeah

help the team trying to improve. And this season a new team is zooming onto the scene. This is Cadillac Formula 1's first home race on American soil. We're super excited to plant the flag that we're America's home team. Cadillac just the second American team to join the pack and the first with big commercial appeal. Their chief marketing officer says they're leaning into that. A core principle for us is definitely opening the doors to modern fandom is opening the doors to all American fans wherever they're coming from. So it's really important for us to make sure our fandom reflects all of America. That point through this weekend with the fan experience going at full speed.

Ooh, I think I'm hitting max speed. The cars are fast and I like to go fast. The youngest to THE OLDEST FANS, EVERYONE IS excited here. There's a lot of changes that have come to Formula 1 this season. This is going to be a big weekend for a few teams. They've had a couple weekends of a break so the fans here are so excited. We'll be watching. I got to go though. I think my ride's here. We thank you for watching and remember stay updated on breaking news and top stories on the NBC News app or watch live on our YouTube channel.
