So, this guy has three wives and he's going to try and murder all of them. Now, the guy's name is Webster and Webster's 35 when this story starts and he's living in Aberdeenshshire, Scotland. And here's the thing about Webster. He loves buying nice things like clothes and he loves taking himself out to expensive dinners, you know, stuff like that. But the problem is he works as a nurse at the local hospital, which is a great job, but he can't afford to be spending all his money like that. So to keep up with all these purchases, he goes into a lot of debt. And if that isn't bad enough, he hides this debt from his wife. His wife is this woman, Claire. Now, one day in 1994, Clare allegedly starts figuring
things out, like she knows something is up. Supposedly, she's starting to catch on that he's been hiding this big secret from her. Now, naturally, this would make any wife super pissed off. not only because her husband has been lying to her, but also because it sucks to owe people money. Now, we have no evidence that Webster ever sits her down and tells her the truth, as it would likely have destroyed their marriage. In fact, quite the opposite happens. Webster doesn't tell her. Instead, he comes up with a really sinister plan. He's going to just drug her over and over again to keep her in a constant state of confusion. That way she never figures out that they're in debt. So he gets to
work on this plan. One day he prepares some tea for Clare and he spikes it with Tamasipam, which is a drug used to treat insomnia. And Clare drinks it and soon she gets sleepy and boom, she's knocked out. And Webster, he keeps doing this. He drugs her again and then again. Each time knocking her out or just keeping her constantly drowsy. And poor Claire, she doesn't know what's going on with her. I mean, she knows that she's always sleepy and she keeps forgetting things and she just can't figure out why. And Webster, he keeps convincing her that it's just some passing illness. No big deal. And that she doesn't need to go to the hospital and get checked out. And Claire actually
trusts him because, you know, I mean, he's a nurse. Why wouldn't she? And so some time passes and Webster, he's still out here spending money that he doesn't have and he keeps making his debt worse. And eventually he realizes something that this just isn't sustainable. One day Clare is going to catch on to the fact that he's been drugging her and when this happens he could go to prison and he obviously doesn't want that. So he comes up with another sinister plan. He's gonna murder Claire because if she dies, then she'll never figure out that he's been poisoning her. And on top of that, he can profit off her death with a little life insurance money. So now he gets to work on this plan. He takes out
a life insurance policy on Clare worth over $200,000. And once that's in place, he prepares for the murder. His plan is to kill her and make it look like an accident. So, one night he drugs Claire again. Then he leads her out to their car and soon they're driving out on the road and that is when he makes his move. Suddenly, screw Webster drives off the road and into an embankment and kaboom, he hits a tree. Then he gets out and he grabs a can of gasoline and he pours it all over the vehicle and he sets it on fire. And unfortunately, Claire doesn't survive this. Then Webster waits until someone passing by calls for help. And by the time the police arrive, he already has a story ready. He tells them that he swerved to avoid a passing
motorcyclist and that's how they ended up off the road and then somehow that the car caught fire. And police actually believe him. I mean, I guess they have no reason not to at this point. And just like that, Webster gets away with murder. Not only that, but later he gets about £200,000 of that life insurance money. And with that, he goes and he buys himself a bunch of new like nice new clothes and new computer equipment. And he buys himself a new expensive cast iron stove. He buys himself a Range Rover. He buys himself a yacht. I mean, life is really good for Webster right now. But then six months go by and he's already spent all that insurance money and now he's looking for ways to get more. Then three more years
go by and it's now 1997. And at this point Webster has relocated all the way over to New Zealand. And that is where he gets married to a new woman. This woman Felicity. And over time, his evil ass decides that he's going to do the same thing to Felicity that he did to his first wife. Take out insurance policies on her and then murder her. So in 1999, he goes and he starts taking out multiple insurance policies on Felicity, about nine in total. And he's able to secure 1.9 million New Zealand dollars or about $1.2 million US worth of coverage. Once that's done, it's time for phase two of his plan. Get rid of Felicity. So, one day he and Felicity, they're out driving and suddenly Webster's like, "Oh no, the steering wheel is failing." And he
starts pretending like he's losing control of the car. And screw it. He begins swerving the car across lanes and it looks like they're about to crash. But then Felicity grabs the wheel and she realizes the steering is perfectly fine and she manages to stop the car. But now Webster knows that his whole plan has fallen apart. There is no way at this point that he can access the life insurance money. Plus, at this point, Felicity now probably knows that he's trying to kill her. So, he steals the equivalent of about $115,000 from their joint bank account. Then he flees the country and he travels all the way back to Scotland. But by this point, New Zealand police, they've started
investigating him because, you know, he took all that money from Felicity and he tried to kill her. Soon they learn about the death of Webster's first wife, Claire, back in Scotland. And that is when they realize that this is a pattern and Webster was probably behind that murder, too. And so they contact the police in Scotland and Interpol and they start looking into all of this. While Webster, he has no idea that any of this is happening. And several years go by and it's now 2004. And Webster, he's still in Scotland and he's working at a local hospital. He's still a nurse. And that is when he meets this woman, Simone. And Simone is also a nurse at the same hospital that he works at. And
so Webster, he ends up liking her. And so he goes to her and he tells her this story about how he has leukemia so that he can get close to her and he like shaves his head and he loses a bunch of weight and he does the whole thing to really fake this illness. And you know it works. Simone feels really sorry for him and she starts taking care of him and slowly they get close and they eventually start dating. And by 2005 he takes out a big life insurance policy on her because it looks like he's about to try and make his move and kill her too, just like he did his other wives. until the Scottish police, who are still investigating him, they discover that he's been faking leukemia for years. So,
quietly, they approach Simone and they tell her everything about the death of Webster's first wife and how he almost killed his second wife and about how he's been faking his illness and that he probably plans to kill her as well. And Simone is like, "Well, all that." and she leaves Webster immediately. Good for her. Then in 2009, Scottish police have finally built up a strong enough case against him and bam, they arrest him. And I don't have a mug shot, but here is a picture of him. And so ultimately he goes to trial and he's found guilty and he gets sentenced to life in prison.
