All the money in the world can't change your genetics, but it can change that thinning hairline of yours. Just ask these celebs. Joel McHale first rose to prominence during the early and mid-2000s as the host of E!'s long-running series The Soup, but it was his role as Jeff Winger on Community that earned him real acclaim as an actor. As he continued with both hosting and acting, fans watched as McHale's hairline evolved and changed in ways that redefined his look. By the time he landed The Soup, he was already thinning up front and on top. More recently though, he has sported a solid hairline across his forehead and a thicker, fuller look overall. That's because he spent a small fortune on a
series of hair transplants. McHale spoke without shame about his hair regrowth journey and the steps he took to achieve his current appearance while guesting on We Might Be Drunk in 2025. Yeah, I'm fully bald. This is Yeah. Okay, I didn't want to broach it. transplants. I did it way back when it was a strip, which was uh painful. He went on to reveal that he'd spent a whopping $10,000 on transplants, which he had done by a doctor in Los Angeles. There was a point in time when the Backstreet Boys may have been the most popular musical act in the world. Even now, the group owns the distinction of having sold more records than any boy band in history. And while AJ
McLean's soulful voice is still just as good as it was in the early aughts, his hairline didn't hold up quite as well. So, McLean took steps to roll back the clock. He proudly copped to getting a hair transplant in the early 2010s, going so far as to share before and after pics on Instagram. He even gave his doctor a shout-out in the caption, writing, "This was the one thing I did and I couldn't be happier. Thank you, Dr. G." My hairline stopped here. Oh. So, I had hair surgery. It's not plugs, let me clarify. That's '90s. In 2021, McLean spoke at length about his hair loss to Allure and said, "Losing my hair is something that I have personally struggled with for a long time. I ended up going to the
straight pitbull look where it's just bald. And since then, I've had hair surgery. I'm going back under the knife again this year." MGK has never been one to blend into the background. Since entering the music industry as a rapper in the early 2010s and ultimately reinventing himself as a provocateur of the pop punk scene some years later, he has made it a habit of standing out. But as he was cultivating a larger-than-life image, his hairline was doing the opposite, thinning and receding at an incredible rate. MGK has never confirmed having any kind of hair treatment, but the difference between 2012 and now is striking. Meanwhile, social media is flush with analysis and
speculation about which procedures or treatments he might have undergone. A 2022 Reddit thread was filled with commenters who believe MGK underwent what's called a follicular unit transplantation, or FUT. One wrote, "He's on medical treatment, most likely finasteride. Then he had at least one FUT surgery where the scar can be very clearly seen in the I Think I'm Okay video." YouTuber and hair restoration expert Dr. Gary Linkov agrees, suggesting that MGK likely had both FUT and FUE, or follicular unit extraction procedures. Once upon a time, Wayne Rooney was the boy wonder of English football. At he made his professional club debut with Everton and by 18 he had signed with Manchester United. After a legendary run as a striker on the pitch,
Rooney has more recently served as a manager and head coach for teams in England and the United States. Unfortunately, he bore the look of a football manager long before his playing career actually ended as he started losing his hair at a relatively young age. But rather than resign himself to nature's course, Rooney decided to reinvigorate his mane and he made no attempt to hide it either. He let the cat out of the bag in a 2011 post on X, writing, "Just to confirm to all my followers, I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, why not? I'm delighted with the result." Fellow footballer Rio Ferdinand responded by joking that Rooney would be doing Head and Shoulders commercials in no time.
Akon exploded onto the music scene in 2004 with the release of his debut solo album Trouble. He continued to find success over the next decade plus as a guest artist, producer, and songwriter as well. In the meantime though, the recording artist struggled to keep his hairline intact. But by the early 2020s, that hairline was back. Akon told Bootleg Kev in 2022 that he went to Turkey to get a grafting procedure done, which he only spent seven and a half thousand dollars on. Turkey is known for two things. That's hair and teeth. According to Akon, the procedure itself wasn't painful except for the needle that was used to numb the area. In December 2025, WWE legend John Cena participated in his
last ever wrestling match. The writing had been on the wall though, as he had spent the last decade plus establishing himself as a bonafide star in Hollywood. The writing was on the wall too for his hair, which had gone through an evolution of its own during his career. Eventually, and with some prodding from the WWE universe, Cena decided enough was enough and took matters into his own hands. When I'm trying to hide my hair loss, the audience is just bringing it to light of like, "You're going bald." Cena told People in 2025 that it was his fans and their bald John Cena signs that pushed him into seeking out treatment for his hair loss. He revealed
that he underwent a transplant in late 2024 and that he utilizes a regimen of vitamins and medication to keep himself and his hairline healthy. The results, he says, have been game-changing and he's not worried about others feeling differently. He said, "If somebody's going to sweat me for that, I don't think there's any shame in that. It completely changed the course of my life." Rapper and singer Tory Lanez released his debut album I Told You in 2016 and then rose to the top of the recording game, dropping multiple hit singles and top 10 albums over the next several years. That is, until he was convicted for shooting Megan Thee Stallion after a house party. Prior to that 2020 incident, one of the biggest online conversations around Lanez was arguably
the discourse surrounding his receding and patchy hair. Lanez has spoken at length about taking steps to shore up his hairline and achieve a fuller, thicker look on multiple occasions, although it's unclear exactly which procedures he has done. During a 2019 interview with Bootleg Kev, he gave a shout-out to his doctor and talked about receiving platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP, which he claimed to have stimulated regrowth. It's like they take the stem cells from here, from like where your hair actually grows, and then they'll put them in places While others have speculated about possible transplant procedures, Lanez says he's never done them.
Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has been in the public eye for the better part of four decades at this point. His career took off during the early '90s when he was a featured player on the sketch comedy series In Living Color. But Foxx later found success as both a recording artist and a bonafide movie star. All the while, his hair changed with age, trends, and according to Dr. Gary Linkov, possible efforts to camouflage thinning before ultimately resorting to more long-term methods of maintaining a more youthful look. According to Linkov, what appears to be an FUT scar could be observed by 2007 when Foxx was pushing 40. Over the years, Foxx's look has continued to shift, but he has managed to keep his hair in a state that Linkov believes
points to having likely undergone at least two hair transplants. There's a level of debate over whether or not Billy Bob Thornton has had a hair transplant, but there's no denying his hair has appeared more lush in recent years. When he joined the ranks of Hollywood's A-list with 1996's Sling Blade, it was already clear that his hairline had seen better days. Over the years, Thornton rarely appeared on the red carpet or anywhere else without a hat or some kind of coverage for his head. More recently though, he's been snapped with a far more impressive head of hair. Like many other stars whose hairlines were suddenly rejuvenated, Thornton hasn't said anything about having received treatment and there's no
shortage of social media threads where fans debate if he's using a hairpiece or has had a transplant. But an article published by the UK-based Crown Clinic claimed that Billy Bob Thornton has had one of the most successful celebrity hair transplants of recent years. It was further noted that he may have had as many as three procedures over the years, likely of the FUE variety. In any case, Thornton's hairline now in his 70s looks more youthful than it did in his heyday. On the court, there's no question that LeBron James is one of the best ballers in NBA history. He's the leading scorer with over 42,000 career points and he has four MVP trophies to go along with his four championship rings. His
hair game however, went into serious decline before making a major comeback during his Lakers years. For his part, YouTuber and hair surgeon Dr. Ross Koppelman observed that beginning around 2008, James was losing hairline density. By 2022 though, there was improvement with both his hairline and overall volume. Koppelman guessed that James probably underwent an FUE procedure, estimating that he had as many as 1,600 to 2 and a half thousand grafts placed to give him a fuller look. But is it time for a second procedure? During a late 2025 game, a fan told James, "You still ain't got no hair." James took it in his stride, though.
Like LeBron James, NFL legend Tom Brady is firmly entrenched in the GOAT debate in his sport. Of course, winning seven Super Bowls and throwing for more yards and touchdowns than any quarterback ever puts the former Patriots and Buccaneers QB in a class all of his own. Too bad Brady's hairline couldn't keep up, at least not until he neared his 50s. Brady has never confirmed whether or not he had a transplant to regrow a voluminous mane after years of thinning, but there are those who are convinced he has. During a 2025 discussion about traveling to Turkey for a transplant on WFAN's Boomer and Gio, Boomer Esiason made his stance known. I've been telling you about this since Tom Brady's come back with a full head of hair,
which is seems like 5 years ago. Jimmy Carr has been a fixture of British comedy and television since he broke out as a stand-up in the late '90s. He later served as a host for a number of game shows and comedy series on Channel 4 before hosting The Fix on Netflix in 2018. And throughout his career, his hair has had a transformation all of its own. For his part, Carr isn't shy about getting cosmetic work done, and he's been refreshingly honest about his hair. In late 2025, he gave Chris Moyles the scoop about his procedure. My hairline I've gone for I've gone forward quite a bit. So, I got my hair transplant. The comic previously joked on the podcast The Mid Point that he looked like a vampire's accountant
before addressing the situation. He also clarified that his hairline wasn't necessarily receding, but that he'd had a strong widow's peak since his teens.
