The race has been in a somewhat scrambled mode since the leading candidate, former Congressman Eric Swallwell, dropped out amid ongoing sexual assault allegations. And according to Real Clear Politics, Republican Steve Hilton, who has President Trump's endorsement, holds a
two and a half point lead over Democrat Tommy Styer, a billionaire who ran for president in 2020. Now, California operates a jungle primary, which means candidates from both parties are on the ballot, and the top two would then advance to the November election, which means that crowded Democratic field could be left off the ticket entirely. more.
