Welcome on board the world's only sevenstar train and one of the most exclusive in the world. This is one of the most stunning trains we have ever been on. You have to enter a lottery just to be able to buy a ticket. And after 2 years, we finally got one. Here we go. The sevenstar train is going to be our home for the next three nights as we travel around Kyushu, the southerntherly most island of Japan's four main islands. Up to this point, all of our previous trips to Japan have been to the northern islands. And those experiences have already made this one of our favorite countries. So, we are super excited to see what the South has to offer. During this trip, we'll give you a full tour of the train, including one
of the most beautiful observation cars we've ever seen, and a room for a private tea ceremony. Then, of course, our favorite part, the food. On board the train, we'll be served 10 to 12 course meals by different chefs every day. What? And yes, it's as mindblowing as it sounds. The Japanese culinary journey begins. The one thing that makes this train trip different than any train we've ever taken before is that we'll be spending one night off the train at a traditional Japanese Ryoken. We were skeptical at first, but if you don't mind a spoiler, this ended up being one of the highlights of the trip.
Someone from Michelin needs to get up here because this is the best place I've ever been. We've been fortunate enough to ride luxury trains on six different continents, including some of the most iconic trains like the Oran Express and the Maharajas Express, but the anticipation of having to wait in a lottery for 2 years has made us more excited about this train journey than we've ever been before. So, join us for 3 days and four nights on board Seven Stars. journey started by being picked up at our hotel by a private chauffeur. 15 minutes later, we arrived at the train station and we were escorted into the private Seven Stars lounge where we met the station master who clipped my ticket
and then decided it would be more fun if Nate clipped his own. So, just he want to change. Oh, For the first time ever. We hope you enjoy. We will. What a start. I already love it here. Wow. What an entrance. I kid you not. Every passenger has their own employee that escorts them to the train and she's just walked us around, taken our photos. Like, she's basically a hype girl and everyone has one. I can't get over the service and we haven't even gotten on the train. All aboard. Oh my gosh. Wow.
Your buggy is so big. Our bags are massive and they're concerned. It is 10:59 on the dot and in typical Japanese fashion, we are departing right on time. Goodbye. Off we go. This is sick. I have no idea who all these people are, but everyone's waving to us as we're departing. Yeah, I was like, where to start? What just happened can't be explained. It can only be experienced. Like, we're going to do our best. That was a great line.
It's true. This is one of the most stunning trains we have ever been on. And the staff, the staff on every luxury train is amazing. But it is just over the top in the most like friendly smiley way possible. And check out the view from where we are right now. We're starting this journey right off with lunch, which is a amazing way to start any journey. Unsurprisingly, I'm already very impressed just with the drink menu. We've got so many Japanese teas. Soju, wine, whiskey. I want to try as many as possible. Cheers. Compai in Japanese. The waitress told me her favorite tea on the menu was this one called vibrto. It's a ripe Japanese plum tea. It is very ripe. Like all my taste buds were like the kitchen is open. It's literally in the lounge. So every time we walk
back here, we can see in the kitchen, see them making the food. Plus, each day we're going to have a different chef in the kitchen preparing the food from each city that we're going through. It's not just each day. For each meal, a new chef comes on board. It's rotating chefs for a completely different culinary experience. The entire journey, our lunch will consist of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 courses. I'm living a dream right now. Anyone who can make a turnup taste good is very talented. Delicate clear soup with tanba shimi and shiakei essence. We're two for two.
The first hour of this trip is embodying everything I love about train travel. We're sitting here in a tunnel. for their young chicks. We're sitting here having an amazing meal and just slowly making our way through the countryside of Japan, which is a part of Japan that we probably never would have taken the time to see otherwise. Like, this is why you travel by train. I cannot believe we had to do this for the next 4 days. It's already going by too fast. So, for this entire trip, Cara has gone with the vegetarian menu, and I chose the pescatarian menu because I feel like fish is just a part
of life here in Japan. It's a cultural experience. So course number three for me is long tooth grouper sashimi. It's wrapped in green onions. It has a radish sauce on top. So good. Everything has been incredible. Every bite of everything. We have seared bonita. Why is fish in Japan so much better than everywhere else? It just melts in your mouth. I mean, it's the closest thing you can get to a steak in fish form. Oh, good. It just keeps getting better. Look at this. Ah, that's what that's for. That is hilarious. She just gave me permission to use my hands instead of the chopsticks, which I appreciate. And the chef said it's like a hamburger. So,
this is a crispy fried lotus root with rice and mustard. Japanese. This is the first time I've been jealous of your food. You should be the actual plates and the plating of everything is 10 out of 10. Like this feels like Michelin star quality food. It just keeps coming. This time we got three plates at once. So I don't know what's going on. We're getting crazy. This I have no idea what this is. Chestnut rice. And I don't know what these are for. It's cucumber and I don't know what that is.
Ginger. No, it's not. It's 100% ginger. Huh? It tastes like lettucey. I can't get the tofu. It's too soft. I think this is a slurper. Dessert time. Hair with vanilla ice cream. And I'm using a new tool for the first time or I guess utensil tool for eating. Yeah, it's like a 4'2 problem. I love it. Time to make ourselves a home. This tiny closet is all we have for storage. We definitely brought way too big a bags for this trip, but we're going to make it work. They did offer to
take our bags and store them while we're on here, but we didn't really pack for that. So, if you do this trip, bring like a small bag. I bought this at H&M last night. Hopefully, people will think it's from Louis Vuitton. Also bought this from H&M last night. Feels very um Prada. Two places I have never purchased from. That was super cool. They slowed the train down so that we could get a better view of the waterfall. Now that we're all settled in, let me give you a quick room tour. During the day, these are lounge chairs, but I assume while we're at dinner, they're going to convert them into beds, so we have that to look forward to. Two twin
beds, unfortunately. Over here, we have this phone. And when she was showing us around, she was like, "Call us if you need anything. Don't hold back any time of day. Give us a call." This looks insignificant, but it is indeed significant. We have our own control of our AC. There are a lot of trains that we've been on where the entire train is just one temperature and we have no control and we've been pretty hot. It's hot again. So, I was very happy to see this. Um, we've got a chair for when these are beds. We have somewhere to sit. And our door is this gorgeous glass with all of this design. I absolutely love this. Um, however, not a lot of privacy. So when it is night time or if
we don't want anybody seeing us, we could just close this curtain. Normally on a train, I feel like your window is either open or it's closed. But check out how many more options we have. First, we have this bamboo shade. But then my favorite, there are these traditional Japanese paper window shades. How beautiful is that? And then at night when we want like a complete blackout, last but not least, gorgeous wooden doors. Like look at this. No matter which option we choose, it's a vibe. Um, here we have our own mini fridge, which they have stocked and it's free. And she told us if we ever want something restocked, all we have to do is call and they'll bring us in our
blue. Now, this is one of my favorite bathrooms we've ever had on a train. First of all, how cute is the sink with the artwork on it? Then, behind the mirror, they've provided lots of amenities, including a bamboo toothbrush. Then usually train toilets leave a lot to be desired, but this one has a Japanese bedet. I absolutely love bedet. I'm so excited about this. But the funny part is all the buttons are in Japanese. So it's kind of like bedet roulette. Like you don't really know like what pressure or where or the temperature. That should be fun. I'll let you test that one out first.
I'll report it back. Or maybe not. That's kind of weird. Above the toilet, we have lots of storage, which is great. I put all my stuff in here so my toiletry bag's not just banging around when the train is moving. And then the shower is shockingly good. Like, for such a tiny room. Check out the space. Like, it's like a normalsiz shower. The wood in here really gives it like spa vibes. And that does it for our cabin. Now, let's explore the rest of the train. Crazy. So, this train only has 10 cars, making it the smallest train that we have ever ridden. We're currently in car number four and every car from here to the front of the train are all guest
rooms. So, we're going to take you from our room to the very back of the train and show you all the public spaces. Let's go. All right. This is where car number four connects to car number three. And usually this part is loud and scary and I don't like it. I don't like it in there. But this one is like solid and beautiful. I don't know how they did it, but look at these lights. Like, it feels like we're in a casino.
I was going to say a spaceship. Follow me. All right. First up, this is called the Cosbar. It's basically a speak easy on the train. Only four people can sit in there, but you have to pay. It's $150 per person for 90 minutes in this bar with a professional bartender. I don't know why it costs that much. I don't know what they do in there. It must be really special. But all the drinks are free the whole time on the train, so we'll never know. The thing that makes it even more mysterious is you're not allowed to take photos or videos in there, so you can't find anything about it on the internet.
I'm tempted, but not for $300. All right, next we have the gift shop, which I browsed around in earlier. Do I need a seven stars towel? I think I'm buying a towel. All right, car number two. This is one of the coolest things we've ever had on a train. This is the tea ceremony room. Each passenger has their own private aotted time here where I think you get to be a part of making the tea. Our appointment is tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning. So, we'll get to see what all this is about. This is like the lounge car where anybody can just come sit on the comfy couches, look out the window, read a book. And this is the most part, the open kitchen. The chefs are preparing tonight's dinner already,
and I can get a little sneak peek of everything. Keep up the good work, guys. Car number two. Or wait, one. The lights are even better on this one. So fun. We've got more of these beautiful window shades. Here we have the bar, the Blue Moon, where we can order coffee, drinks, literally anything all day, every day for free. Well, you know, if you paid for the ticket. And the rest of the train is this dining car where we have our breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. So beautiful. We're spending a lot of time in here. And the best part of this room is this window. I absolutely love just staring at the tracks as we're going. It's just
mesmerizing. Like, I could just sit here with a glass of wine or a coffee the whole time and be happy. I love it. I love the Japanese style of design. It's super luxurious, but also very minimal at the same time. It's probably my favorite train interior of any train that we've ever ridden. like it's just more my style. My only complaint is that there's no way to go outside or get fresh air. Like I love being able to hang my head out the window and watch the world go by or especially if there's like an open deck on the back. But if there's not going to be an open deck, the floor to sailing window is the next best thing.
The train just stopped in the town of Yuween and there were two options for this stop. You could go out on a walk of the town or you could stay on for a tea ceremony. Everyone got off except for us. We're having our own private tea tasting with the trains tea master. I'm not sure what it takes to become a tea master, but he's wearing this long black cloak and he seems really awesome. Oh, here he comes. And the cinnamon. How long does it take to become a tea master? My mother and the tea teacher. Our high grandmother teacher. So you're three generations.
Yes. And 40 48. Kai. That is divine. Wow. I got the green tea with cinnamon. Like usually when you drink a tea, the aftertaste is kind of bitter, which I don't mind. I drink tea all the time. But this has zero bitterness. It's an ice cream sandwich. Who knew? It's chestnut ice cream with rice crackers on either side. Can I pick it up and eat it with my hands? Oh, you take it off. Yeah, that's cool.
Ah, new Ah, I like that. Okay. What? It tastes like cheesecake ice cream. This is the best ice cream I've ever had. I'm not kidding. Now for the full experience. This is a date with butter and a walnut on top. As expected, that's a lot of butter. Wo. Now it looks like a little bit. So, he said this is made from a Japanese potato, but it's like mochi. I don't know what mochi is usually made from. It's basically like a mushy Japanese dessert. This takes the cake without a doubt. So, I feel like afternoon tea on Fancy Trains is kind of a thing, but that is by far the most unique afternoon tea experience we've ever had and probably
the most delicious. We definitely made the right choice staying on the train. Done. So hot. This is awesome. This is just a foot bath with natural spring water at the train station. This island that we're traveling around in Japan is known specifically for its hot springs or its onens. This must just be a super common thing in Japan because the train staff didn't even mention it. Like it's not something you get off the train to come do. We just looked out the window and saw it. And for us, it's such a novelty to be able to do a foot bath at a train station. What a perfect day. Tell me about it. I swear you can tell when it's spring water. Like it feels thick, slidy between your toes.
Oh, I want to put my whole body in it really bad. So, dinner each night on board has a formal dress code and I am attempting to make my suit look presentable because it did not travel well in my suitcase. But the irons in Japan are different. No cord. It plugs into this little station and it's the smallest ironing board I've ever used. I'm already not good at ironing and this makes it way more challenging. Two hours later. All right, let's go to dinner. Oh, look at that, man. I feel so uncomfortable. I feel uncomfortable with dress clothes. I feel uncomfortable without a hat. I don't know what to do with my hair. But let's go enjoy dinner. Ow.
Woo. Where's your jacket from? H&M. I've never seen that dress before either. First time wearing it. Come by. I mean, come by. to our first dinner on board. We have the couch seat. So pretty. So, I know we just finished dinner and I wouldn't say I'm hungry, but there is a evening magic show tonight and we were on our way into the magic show and we passed the kitchen and of course I stopped. I was talking to the chefs and then they were like, "We're serving ramen with magic show." And I just had to get it. So, we have two different types of ramen cuz I couldn't decide. So, one is a soy sauce base and one is more of a salv.
This might be one of the best eggs of my life. This is like everything I love about a ramen. Okay, they're very different. I don't know which one I like more. If I had to pick one, it's the shield, the soy sauce one. But I will eat them both. If you're asking yourself how we're still eating, I am asking myself the exact same question. Sometimes on this channel we are running ultramarathons and sometimes we're doing food marathons. We just live on the extremes one way or the other. Um, who are you saying we about? Because Nate turned them down and I said I'll have one of each. Car does marathons. I do running Let's just say we both have our strengths.
Please say any number. Nine. Okay. I nine. And please say suits. Any suits. Uh, clubs. I'll find nine clubs. I use magic. Take one card. Take any card. Take one. Take one card. Take This one. Okay. I use this one. This is not nine of craps. Okay. Now change into the nine of clubs. Very slowly. Okay. Watch. Nine of cups. Wait. Where did it go? Okay. Very slowly. Wait, where did he go? Okay, I did. Are you serious? This is magic. This is not knight of cups. This is for the dance.
This is magic. Just magic. Editing Cara from the future. Here I am watching the magician frame by frame. And I still have no idea how he's doing this. Like there is zero tricks that I can see like with his hand and the cards. Like I have no idea. I really thought if I slowed it down I'd see where he like hit a card somewhere in his hand, but he doesn't. It's literally magic. Uh, which do you like? Fast, slowly, cool, What is cool? Very cool. Cool style. Be cool. You like cool. Okay. Yeah.
I say cool style. Uh, travel. Yes. What? I have a lovehate relationship with magic. I'm obsessed with it, but it drives me crazy. Like, how? I don't know. One point. One point to my pocket. Okay. The copper one's gone. Yes. So, you should have one silver. Which one? Guess one silver. One. Nothing. No. What these? Well, you didn't have any. No, I don't know how I had sushi. Where did that come from? Thank you very much.
Real quick, we want to say a big thank you to Surf Shark for sponsoring this video and making videos like this possible. Surf Shark is a VPN that we've been using for the last 5 years to stay seamlessly connected when we travel abroad. If you've been following along, you know we spent over a month traveling around China. And Surf Shark was the only way that we could access sites like YouTube and Instagram to keep posting content. But even if you're not traveling to a country with restricted internet, you still probably need a VPN. And if you're new around here, a VPN stands for virtual private network, and it encrypts all the data sent between your computer and the internet so that
no one can steal your sensitive information. Public Wi-Fi networks like hotels and coffee shops can be a gold mine for hackers. But a VPN gives you an added layer of protection. Plus, it can be used to change the virtual location of your computer and give you access to a completely new content library. So, if you don't already have a VPN, we obviously highly recommend Surf Shark. There is a link in the description below, surfark.com/caratnate. And if you use our link, you'll get four extra months. Plus, there's a 30-day money back guarantee, so there is no risk to try it out.
Oh gosh, how cute are these PJs? These were just sitting on our bed when we got back to the room. Do you think we can keep these? I bet we can. They feel new. I'm keeping them. You would hope they were new. Also definitely thought we were sleeping in two separate twin beds tonight, but somehow we have a whole king-siz bed. Like it kind of feels like a pullout couch vibe. I would say it's like every mattress in Japan. Firm but comfortable. Oh, what a day. Honestly, this is one of the best days of my life. I'm obsessed with Japan and I love the Japanese people and to be
so immersed in their culture with these people that I'm becoming friends with is just a dream come true. Garrett makes friends with everybody. Literally, one of the girls on the train tonight was like, "We love your smile. Everybody's been talking about it." Like, she did. I literally shed a tear. I was like, "I love you, too." Okay, it is um almost midnight and breakfast starts at 7:00 in the morning. So, um we'll see you soon. 7's going to come way too early. They should never do 7:00 breakfast.
I'm so happy. Good morning. While we were asleep, the train made its way to Asal. Pretty good first night of sleep. We rocked around a bit, but wasn't bad. And we both woke up at 6:00 this morning to go to breakfast and realized that neither one of us could think about eating after yesterday. So, we went back to sleep and now we're starting the morning with a tea ceremony. Okay. No shoes allowed. Ooh, this is going to add a fun element. Are you supposed to cheers uh tea or no? Tea. We don't say you don't cheers.
Okay. I kind of figured that might be the case. Enjoy. Ah, this is amazing. So, in the tea ceremony, after you have tea, you say, "That's a big one." I think I added an extra syllable. What does it mean? Didn't taste good. Like, it didn't taste good. We should be humble. Okay. Even if it tastes good, we say it tasted about light. Oh, that's funny. Dear passengers, good morning. Please kindly repeat inform that now we are at Kumamoto station.
Goodbye, Sara. The train has just stopped at Komado Station. I recognize that I have a few bags with me and that's because we just had to pack everything up for the night because we're actually not going to be spending the night on the train, which is a bit of a bummer because we haven't been on there very long. But it should be a lot of fun because tonight we're going to be staying at a Ryoken, which is a traditional Japanese hotel. And now we are about to board our very first ferry ever in Japan. That's going to take us about 30 minutes across the bay over to the town of Shima Bar. We're on our first ferry.
Wow. Not bad for a 30inut ride. They reserved the first class seats for the seven stars passengers. Look, this is luxury. This is wild. I'm up on the top deck and everyone's up here feeding the seagulls French fries. They're just hovering right with the boat. I just love how much fun everyone's having. I don't like seagulls. I'm scared. I don't want to. You got to hold it up. I don't want to. I think they can feel my energy.
Oh gosh. Took it away. Sorry. Okay, I'll be better this time. Oh gosh. I'm sorry. I lost it. Believe it or not, there is a postal service on this ferry. So, I'm writing my granny a postcard and we're going to put it in there and see how long it takes to get all the way to Florida. Meet you. Thank you. So, we've just arrived at the Ryoken where we'll be staying tonight. But on the way here, we picked up a new tour guide who told me something that completely blew my mind. We drove past the world's youngest mountain. It was formed 35 years ago by a volcanic eruption, which means that massive mountain is younger than me.
Oo, fun. Confession. When I first read the itinerary and learned that we were spending a night off of the train, I wasn't really looking forward to it. Like, I was like, I love the train. I want to stay on the train. Why are we leaving? And now I get it and I almost don't want to leave here. Now we are basically in our own private palace and they've just brought us some fresh hot matcha. We're going to enjoy this with our mochi and our view and then we'll show you around. I love Japan. I never want this trip to end. This just my dream. I'm living my dream right now.
I really like the chestnuts. Mhm. Trest nuts in a moi in Japan in a raot. We're going to the onen later tonight. Right after I finish my ma. I think I went into a different song. When I picture a traditional Japanese rioten, I think of just this simple room where you sleep on the floor on these traditional mats. I didn't even know they made them like this. This is so big. I literally got lost looking for the bathroom. This is just our entryway. Like, there are rocks in the entryway. Let me show you the highlights. Okay, so you walk in, we have stairs to another level. This is probably my favorite part as usual.
Check out this bathroom. Of course, Japanese toilet with a bet. Lots of options. Still in Japanese. Oh, wait. This isn't See, I'm lost again. This isn't the one. Wait, I'm not really sure what this room is for. Here it is. No, I swear I'm not Should I do this tour? Okay, the next best thing. Look at this coffee maker. Didn't even know if we'd have coffee up here in the mountains, but we have our own coffee maker in our room. Here is the next best thing. Ready? Not on the floor. We have a real bed and maybe the best one of this whole trip. Ready?
Wow. We have two closets. Is this the one or is this where I was earlier? Bathroom number two, which is in itself hilarious. Check out our shower. Look at that tub. It's not hot spring water, but I want to pretend like it is. Down the stairs we go. Like she was showing us around and every corner we turned, I thought like, oh, this will be like a shared area. No, this is all ours. We have this. I picture people like meditating here maybe. Or maybe this is like the yoga room. Feels like a nice space for it. This is where we had our matcha. We are overlooking the most beautiful garden with the stream and the building that we can see the roof of right there is going to be amazing.
We'll show you that later. Welcome to our dining room where they're going to be delivering our private dinner. What? But in conclusion, it's massive and beautiful and blew my expectations out of the water. They were very low and they've just been like in fairness. The last time we stayed at a Rayoken, we had specifically sought out this uh cat hotel where you could like adopt a cat for the night and live with it. And it definitely was not this level of luxury, especially with our feline friends. They were a complete handful. And I woke up to this the next morning. Oh, I can't do it. If you didn't watch them constantly, they would just pee and poop on everything. All right, pay attention.
Hold on. I'm not ready. Okay. Oh, I'm behind already. The right side should always be in the front. Okay. This is my right side. This should be in front. Okay. Wait, did she wrap it all the way back around? Yeah. Okay. For dinner tonight, we have a special dress code, which is these kimonos that we were given when we checked in. We're having to watch a YouTube video to learn how to wear them. I am not following. I don't feel like it's supposed to look like a Christmas bow. We both look like we're wearing hospital gowns.
How beautiful is this? I mean, I'm not surprised at this point, but I've never seen a meal presented this way. There's so many colors. I don't even know how to eat some of this. And she approves of my tie. There are fall leaves on the plate. One of my starters is in a lime peel bowl. We have this huge menu. I believe these are just the appetizers, but they're all just tiny and cute, like one or two bites of 10 different things. Our pear is wild grapes wine that comes in this tiny little mug. The most beautiful meal I've ever seen. All right, we're just going to go for it. This is unbelievable. I just I can't stop thinking about how much I didn't think I wanted to do this. So, each room on the train tonight got
their own version of this. Like, everyone's getting their own private dinner served to them in their room. What an over-the-top experience. And what makes this even better is this is new in the grand finale of the evening. This is fried green onions. Yummy. We got menus for the night which are in English, but Cara substituted some veggie options and so she's taking the time to Google translate each tiny dish on Cara's plate. Also, the soup is delicious and the vegetables on top were cut into the shape of maple leaves. I don't think I've ever had lobster sashimi before, but it came with salt. And she told me to squeeze the lemon in it and then dip the lobster sashimi in
that combination. Wow. It just melts in your mouth. M. You're acting like me. I think I might like squid more than lobster. What? Lobster sounds way fancier, but squid has like a creaminess to it. M. Oh no. I think this is a squid. What did I just eat? Who knows? You look so cute in your outfit. I feel like I'm wearing a bathrobe to dinner. Someone from Michelin needs to get up here cuz this is the best place I've ever been. the presentation and the service and the setting. Like, I don't know if it gets any better than
this. They've taken the time to string two nuts to a tiny tree branch. This is like a pine tree branch with nuts. Everything's good. I don't know what half of it is, but it's all amazing. I've never eaten an entire half of an eggplant with chopsticks before. Do I eat this? Okay. The lobster shell is decoration. Oh, I got to loosen my kimono. Dessert is bigger than it usually is. I could have made this up, but I'm pretty sure there's a word in Japan that only they have that stands for you only eat until
you're 80% full. Like you don't eat until you're just like I am right now. Ooh, we've got hair dryers, products. Here are all of the instructions. Sit down and have a shower. Wash your body. No running. Refrain from washing your clothes or underwear. In conclusion, you get in there, you wash your body, and you soak naked and hope that nobody joins you. I've done a traditional naked on before, but like I didn't know anyone, and everyone was local and everybody knew what to do. But like a bunch of tourists in here naked together that I'm going to be like sitting at dinner with tomorrow. It's going to be a little weird.
This is the washing station. This is the hot spring. This one is a cold plunge. This sauna is 96° C. Best part, I discovered this. What an amazing way to end an already epic day. So, after dinner, they took us on a guided hike to a place that literally translates to hell. It's where the volcanic activity is closest to the surface. So, there's a ton of steam pouring up out of the earth. That place is only about 5 minutes down the road. recently learned that place is the source for the hot springs at our hotel, which I feel like just gives me so much more appreciation for where I'm sitting
right now. But how good is this? I got to keep the camera pointed up so you can't see too much, but there's even a little waterfall over here. What a vibe. Good morning. We just had another super over-the-top meal for breakfast. Spent a little bit of time in the sauna and cold plunge. Now we're just finishing packing up before we head back to the train. Oh, and we have another lunch stop on the way back to the train. We have eaten so much in the last 48 hours. Lunch today. Not only are we getting to watch the chefs cook right in front of us, but they're explaining every step of how they're making our food today. They
even showed us this beautiful basket of all the ingredients that they're using. The vegetables are locally grown. The craziest thing we've seen is he mixed nitrogen gas with the flour in order to make it crispy. So when they fry the tempura, it's just perfectly coated around the vegetable. Oh my gosh, that is the best bit of shrimp I've ever had in my life. I usually don't even like shrimp. This is a fried shrimp head, which I would normally never order or enjoy, but I have a feeling I'm gonna love it. I was right. I love that shrimp head. I've never heard those words come out of Garrett's mouth before.
Probably never will again. They put the shrimp in this rainbow formation to represent the mountains here because the details, you know. Our next dish we were told to eat with our hands. It is seaweed, which we saw where it was harvested yesterday, which is really cool. And it has sea urchin on top, which I've also never been a fan of. Yes. Just Yes. This dish is going to win most interesting dish of the meal. It is a jelly with some different vegetables and fried octopus.
How is it? Fascinating. I don't feel like it should work, but for some reason, it works. Weird combination. unique. That's weird. My next dish comes with my own teapot. This is roasted green tea. And I'm about to pour it on my fish. And I asked him how much. He said, "A lot." I poured a The salty fish mixed with the green tea. Insane combination. I don't know how you even think to do this, but I love it. I love you. Great nap. We have just arrived back at the Isahaya station. So from here we'll get on the train and then the train will make its way towards Nagasaki.
It's dinner time on board the train, but we're not going to make you sit through and watch us eat another 1 2 3 10 11 12 course meal. But how beautiful is the presentation of this lobster? I feel like we always eat a lot when we're on trains, but this one it might be the most. We got the whole band. I don't know. Wow. Good work, everyone. Someone take that away from her. Good morning. Somehow it is our last morning on board, but we're about to eat breakfast on the train for the first time.
Poor food. Yay. They wake you up early on this train. They keep you up late. Wake you up early. Also, we're at a station and somebody's just staring in the window. Thank you. Wow, it's like a breakfast present. As usual, the breakfast presentation does not disappoint. So, the train has come to a stop at USA Station, which I'm pretty sure translates to something totally different in Japanese. But from here, we're getting on a bus and going to a temple where we will be doing our first meditation experience. quite the entrance. This temple we're about to meditate in has never been renovated and it's 1300 years old. I am so excited.
The last time we were in Japan, we did a meditation in another temple and I was really nervous. I didn't know how it was going to go. However, I've done a lot of meditating since then. So, I am extra excited for this experience. Do I look relaxed? Unsurprisingly, there was no filming inside the temple, but there was a monk in there. He rang some bells. He did this thing with a stick where he tapped our shoulders, and we did some stretching and did a really lovely 10-minute meditation. Fun way to end the trip. We have just arrived back at Kitsuki Station. And from here, we start making our way back to Fukuoka, where we started and where we end.
We're home. Anybody home? I got those. And just like that, it's over. We waited in the lottery for over 2 years to ride this train. So, expectations were through the roof, but somehow they were exceeded. And we've also set the record for the most courses that I've ever eaten in 4 days. If you're a foodie, especially if you love Japanese food, I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. From here, we transfer straight on to one of the Japanese bullet trains and go to Osaka. See you in the next one. Do you mean to do a pine at tea time? The intensity of the boiled egg smell right now cannot be described. Our light controls are just right here. Look.
Okay. I don't know how. Oh, our lamp is still on. See you in the morning. Oh, no. How did this turn on? It's not that one. How that one? There it is.
