This is Superyacht News in association with Go Earth boating, navigating boat buyers to better deals. Hi guys, welcome back to the channel and welcome back to episode 600 of Superyacht News. Yes, 600 episodes. We've been doing them since about 2021 and it time has flown really quickly, hasn't it? Anyway, we'll get on with our first story. One story that you might have heard going around is that Jeff Bezos is planning to sell his superyacht Coro, his new superyacht, relatively new superyacht that was built by Ocean Co. in the Netherlands. It's 127 m in length, which 416 415 ft. Uh, and it is rather conspicuous. right now. Uh the two there are two narratives going around about the reasons why he's
decided he wants to sell the yacht. And one of them is that the yacht is too big. Uh and as a as an example for it being too big. People have mentioned that the vessel wasn't allowed to dock in Monaco for the Grand Prix last year. It's a poor example because Monaco has births for much larger yachts than Koru. Uh, in actual fact, it has a cruise ship terminal that can take 300 meter cruise ships. So, it's definitely not about the size uh of the yacht to get in there. It is a long yacht. It would need one of the larger births uh up towards where the cruise ship terminal is, but there's a set of births there for the very large yachts like Octopus has been in there, which is a larger yacht than Koru. Um, but um that's
that's a bad example, but it doesn't mean it's not true, right? It doesn't mean that he doesn't feel like it's too big. Now, as a result of not being able to get a birth at Monaco last year, he had to f his guests in by tender, which to be honest is pretty regular occurrence on any yacht of that size are too big for you to dock. And most um owners don't want to dock anyway because they want the privacy of being out at anchor and then they just tender in the guests. But in that particular instance, it would have been, you know, you want to be in there because you want to watch the race from the deck of your yacht. So, it must have been frustrating, but it's certainly not because the yacht was too big. Uh, like
I said, they got much bigger births in there. Uh, it's probably just that they were all sold out, right? Because they do sell out those births for the Grand Prix. Did I say Grand Prix or yacht show? I don't remember now, but I meant Grand Prix if I said yacht show. Um, now the second story is that the yacht is just too conspicuous. Um, and I think that could be more true. Uh, but to be honest, I mean, as a as yachts go, it's a beautiful yacht. Uh, it's a sailing yacht. It's it's unusual. So, it's even in terms of superyachts, I mean, it's the largest sailing yacht in the privately owned sailing yacht in the world. Now, people often say, well, what about sailing yacht A? That's bigger.
It's 142 m, but sailing yacht A is not really a sailing yacht, even though it's called sailing yacht A. Um, it's just called A actually, but sailing yacht is the preface, right? Um the sailing yacht, it's a sailing yacht in name only because it actually it's a sail assisted yacht which basically means that it can use its sails to uh put its sails up which assist but it needs its engines. It can't move without his engines. The thing is the reason why it's so conspicuous is because Jeff Bezos is the owner. It's not because of the yacht, right? Whichever yacht he was to buy, it would still be conspicuous because everybody would know, oh that's Jeff Bezos's yacht. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you
look at it or how he looks at it, he's he's a very well-known uh person, right? And he stands out when you see him and when he's on his yacht. I mean, it is kind of ostentatious in the sense that he's got the prow the wooden carving of his wife on the prow of the vessel. Um but even if you were to buy a regular yacht, um he would still stand out because of him, not because of the yacht so much. Now, another thing that's been mentioned in these stories is that it's some sort of package that if you buy Karu, you'll get Aiona with it. I don't think that's going to happen. I think it's more likely he would keep Abiona. If he did sell Coru, he would keep Abiona and
because that's effectively it's a port vessel, but it's also a sailing yacht. It's got um suites on board for, you know, that are done to a superyacht standard. So he could use that if he was um deciding to buy something else and he was waiting if he went back to a marina to build um went back to a shipyard to build a new one, he could use that owner in the meantime. This is all speculation. Um like I said, there's nothing official that says he's he's selling it. What um has been floated is that he's planning on selling it privately, which means that there would be no listing for that yacht. Or he could sell it privately using u an agent. Um, but they would say, "Well,
we're not going to publicly announce it and list it on our website." You know, that plenty of yachts are sold that way that the company knows the kind of people who have that kind of money who might be in the market and they contact them privately and say, "Are you interested in buying this yacht?" So, it could go down that route. Um, but yeah, so that's that's the story that he's planning on selling the yacht. Nothing official that we've seen. Uh, but yeah, those are the two reasons that have been floated. I think it could be a combination of both that it is conspicuous and it also is quite large and maybe he thought he was going to be able to dock everywhere. But like I said, most owners don't want to do that
anyway because they want to maintain that privacy, right? They don't want to be uh docked right next to another yacht and be looking through the window at other people on other yachts. So, but interesting story anyway, nonetheless. So, we'll move on. Anyway, um we've got uh an update on Moto Nord. Now in the last video we talked about this chap that contacted us u um calling me all kinds of names saying I was staying on the industry etc because I don't because I talk about the industry and I don't keep quiet which is what you're supposed to do when you work in the industry what we believe we traced him to a superyacht agency that operates in various places including the moldives and the seells right well specifically
for him the seells we believe he's he's running an agency in the seells I'm not going to say the name of the place Uh but um it seems to have been confirmed because Motto Nord went and docked or it went and dropped anchor outside of a marina near Muscat in Oman and turned off the AIS promptly. Right. And I said in the last video I said it's unlikely that they're going to sail through um that area with the AIS switched off when the US Navy is there looking for vessels that are trying to dodge sanctions. Right. It's unlikely that they would do that because it would be quite reckless to do that. That's what I said in the last video. Well, apparently that's exactly what they did. So that's
what the captain felt like it was a good move to turn off the AIS in a war zone effectively and then sail dark to the seells because the boat has been spotted in the seells according to this uh this news outlet which I'll put on screen right now. This is I think this is from um Switzerland and it's in German. It's translated into English but they basically said that one of their holiday makers spotted the yacht in the Sey Shells. Now, it is reckless to do that. I think that if that vessel did turn off its AIS and sail through that area just so they could sort of try and hide where they were going, which seems quite um petty, doesn't it? All things considered, you think the danger of everybody on board the yacht to be
sailing dark in an area where there is military conflict going on. You would think, well, well, imagine if it was an aircraft and it was flying over Iran and they switched off their transponder. Now, to the Iranians, that would be considered a military aircraft, right? Because military aircrafts don't broadcast transponders when they're doing bombing missions. So, that would be super dangerous for that aircraft to switch off its transponder. Well, that's exactly what Nord has done. Apparently, according to the data that we have, at least that's what they did. So, if you look on AAS right now, it still shows the boat as being an anchor off uh of Muscat off of Marina near
Muscat in Oman, but it's actually in the Sey Shells according to this news article. Um, so yeah. So, uh, we just find that quite incredible that the captain would take that kind of risk. Uh, now it's different. Now, obviously, we're not on the ground there, so we don't know the details of it, but it just seems quite um reckless, doesn't it, to do that. Um, and this and it also the reason why I was talking about this chap that wrote this message and also I believe that was the same person who sent us that letter a few months ago. Um, it also sort of makes it feel like it is true that the boat is in the se shells. if he works for a superyacht agency in the SE shells and Nord needs those agencies to get
provisions and to get fuel and to get other things and to fly crew in and all of the things that happens when you operate a big superyacht like that. It's probably got 70 80 crew on board that yacht uh and all of those things that require these companies that operate in the area for mainly for like things like provisions and things like that. So it seems to make sense that this person feels quite protective of that yacht because he's he's got this relationship with them. So he feels like he's protecting them in some way, you know, even though they're being extremely reckless by sailing around the war zone with no AIS. So yeah, so it's interesting anyway that the vessel is apparently in uh in the Sey Shells. If you're in the Sey Shells
or if you're going to the Sey Shells, keep an eye out. You know, it's a bit like, as a great comedy once said, it's a bit like a giraffe in dark glasses trying to get into a gorillas only nightclub. The equivalent of trying to hide a yacht of that size, 140 plus meter yacht, and you're trying to play this game where you're hiding its location. It's impossible to do it, which has been proven time and time again by our wonderful subscribers who send us in this data to show the vessel in various different locations. So, yeah. But anyway, I'll leave it there, guys. That's all I've got for you today.
