Lauren Sanchez and Cher Among the Worst Dressed at 2026 Met Gala

The 2026 Met Gala saw several celebrities criticized for their fashion choices. Honorary chair Lauren Sanchez Bezos wore a boring custom Schiaparelli piece, while Cher's deconstructed ensemble disappointed fans. Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster looked basic, Gabrielle Union's Michael Kors dress felt dated, and Charli XCX failed to push boundaries in Saint Laurent. Jay-Z's classic tuxedo was safe but unexciting.

The Met Gala is no award show, but there are winners and losers all the same. And in 2026, these celebrities were very much the losers. Ironically enough, one of the worst dressed stars at this year's Met Gala was its honorary chair, Lauren Sanchez Bezos. In one word, it's been a complete honor. To be clear, Sanchez Bezos wore a very pretty dress to this year's event, a custom Schiaparelli piece based on John Singer Sargent's Madame X. Even so, the whole look came off painfully boring, a fact made all the plainer considering how inventive Schiaparelli can be. Speaking of phoning it in, next up are Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, who made their Met Gala debut looking as basic as

one can in a tux and a shimmering gold dress. Did they look nice? Sure, but it also felt like they'd picked out whatever black tie attire they already had in their closets and called it a day. Then we've got Cher, who, given the choice between all of nothing, gave us nothing. I love to see people expressing themselves. Cher's worn some pretty iconic looks in the past, and bearing that in mind, it'd be quite the understatement to call her 2026 Met Gala look a disappointment. Granted, nobody was expecting her to revive her naked looks of yore, although the sheer panels on this outfit may have been a subtle allusion to some of her past style successes.

Somehow though, her deconstructed ensemble for the 2026 Grammys felt more Met Gala coded than her actual Met Gala outfit. This one stung, too. Gabrielle Union could work a paper bag, and there's no question she looked beautiful at this year's Met Gala. Props for her hair do, too, which was styled impressively to look like a crown. However, the Michael Kors dress felt super dated. It may have been better suited to the 2016 Met Gala than the 2026 event. Meanwhile, another star who looked drop-dead gorgeous yet dreadfully boring at the same time was Tate McRae. McRae's outfit could have been worn at any red carpet event, and it failed to deliver the appropriate glam or flamboyance for the Met Gala. The lace

detailing almost rescued the outfit for her, and it's true that she certainly looked great in gold. But none of this was enough to give her outfit that spark of something special. Here's another one. Gorgeous, stunning, classic, and boring. Charli XCX is known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to her sense of style, so plenty of fans and viewers must have hoped her 2026 Met Gala appearance would be all kinds of fabulous. Yet, she arrived at the event in a black Saint Laurent dress that was pretty, yes, but also pretty plain for the occasion. Perhaps the rationale behind the look was that it would be super different from what anyone expected, in which case, congrats. Finally, we've got Jay-Z, who

looked dapper and classic when he made a rare public appearance at this year's Met Gala. Considering the fact that he's not often seen out in public these days, however, you might have expected something more impressive than dapper and classic. Jay-Z deserves some grace, since Beyoncé and their daughter Blue Ivy brought their own A-games to the red carpet, and you could even argue that Jay-Z may have wanted to let them have their own moments. Even so, considering his own track record in the fashion stakes, who could blame us for expecting something more?
