Art came to life at the Met Gala last night. The star-studded event benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute. From walking paintings to human statues, celebrities like co-chair Beyonce, Rihanna, and even Stevie Nicks. Oh, look at Heidi Clume. Uh took center stage for this year's theme, which is fashion is art. CBS 247 co-anchor Adriana Diaz was there. Also joining us is CBS News contributor and Puck fashion correspondent Lauren Sherman. Good to see you both. Adriana wearing your Met Gala finest. I am milking this dress for as long as I can. You should cuz you look so damn fine.

Thank you. We had a blast. You've covered the mech before. I have for many years. This was my first time and it was just it's like transformative. You go through this tent and suddenly we were walking into a Claude Monae painting through a secret garden like the steps were stone steps. was just beautiful. And also many paintings on the red carpet. Yes. From what one woman was wearing a waterlies dress to Hunter Schaefer wearing the climp dress gown after the climp painting. It was amazing. You know what's so interesting is I find it very hard. So, I love my favorite look of the night and I was saying this to Gail King, my co-host on CBS Mornings that I there was there were a lot of, you know, contenders, but I love Naomi

Osaka's. I love how she came in and then did the reveal. I love how it like paid tribute to art, but also to her Japanese heritage. But I struggle with the men. Why do I love like women's fashion, but when I see the guys, I'm like lame, gross, corny. Like, I don't know what like you guys help me understand this. I like Jay-Z's brooch. The brooch for a man has become a big thing and it's kind of overdone, but I thought that Jay-Z looked good. I agree. I think men have taken bigger risks at other fashion events like at the Oscars. The men were pretty subdued this time.

He had like the heated rivalry guys. I mean, I was here for that halter top on Conor. He looked amazing. He had a halter top on with his big muscular muscles and I was like, I don't think it's about the fashion. No, it was amazing. Coleman Domingo brought it. So, what's really interesting about Coleman Domingo is he told us that this piece was represented um was inspired by a Bosat piece of art uh called the Pez Dispenser. I think we have a photo of it. It's the same colors and the Pez dispenser uh artwork has a crown and he said that he feels like he's wearing a crown, his hair is his crown. So, it was fantastic.

I love that it's not a direct interpretation and he has such amazing personal style. I also love ASAP Rocky and Chanel. He's the cutest. He was cut. We have that. Let's see. ASAP Rocky. ASAP wore this pink uh kind of like loud suit and he was like, "I'm from Harlem. I can wear pink. I can wear whatever I want." He was very cute. All right. See, like that. I can I [clears throat] Yeah, I can jive with that. And Rihanna looks amazing as always. Oh, yeah. Lauren and I have uh I think the same best dress we do.

Okay. What are they? The model Paloma Elsa. Oh my goodness. She was like a walking painters palette. I don't know if we have that photo of her. There she is. Gorgeous. That is really nice. Lauren, what's the story behind her gown? So, the [clears throat] dress was commissioned by eBay. The designer is Franchesco Risso. He has a new project and there it was made of 30 dresses, but it just looked so it I it was gorgeous. It probably isn't technically couture, but it is beyond couture. She just looked so beautiful. And there were a lot of direct interpretations last night. This was just a work of art. Fashion is art was

the theme and it was Can I ask quickly before [snorts] we move on to talk about uh about other stuff um Lauren Sanchez's dress, she's a co-chair of the Met Gala and uh many people who are familiar with art uh very quickly picked up on the fact that she was referencing a piece of artwork from the 19th century by John Singer Sergeant Madame X. Lauren, take us through what that painting represented and why we think Lauren Sanchez Bezos picked this. Well, the there are many who knows why. Okay. I think Claire Foy also was wearing a Madamexesque dress and I say hers was a little bit more of a direct interpretation, but the thing about this dress to me was it was pretty

understated, especially for the designer Daniel Roseberry who does Scaparelli. And I don't know, I thought she looked nice. It was not given that she was the star of the evening. They were co-chairs. They rum rumoredly paid $10 million to help sponsor the event and Anna Winter ended up raising $42 million including that money that they gave. So when we say the record is broken contributed to that. Yes, they it was 31 million last year, 42 this year. So you know why she chose that? Was she really doing her homework?

Maybe she was trying to be understated knowing the controversy that her presence brought. I mean, she walked the red carpet, but Bezos didn't. What did you like, Kelly? Um, so I more go with like the first thing that pops into my mind, like Kim Kardashian. How do you go to the bathroom in that dress? Very Heidi Clume. Way too much committed to the theme, but I respect that commitment. Nobody knew who Heidi was. Everyone's like, "Who is that?" And then they said, "Heidi, it's like of course it's Heidi because that's what Heidi does on

Halloween." Naomi Osaka was another one that you didn't know who she was because before she did that reveal, she I don't know if we have any video of Naomi. She had a really low hat on. So, we had no idea who that was. Katie Perry walked the red carpet offensing. And then she revealed it and I was like, "Oh, it's Katie Perry." Wow. But you know what? One of my favorite things about being there was, you probably saw this in years past, just the fact that like this is a spectacle for everyone. It's a spectacle for the celebrities. It's a spectacle for the press. And then you have tourists or regular New Yorkers on the public bus on Fifth Avenue. The street is open and they can see right in and all of the

people on the bus are just plastered against the window to try to see what's going on with all of their phones. It is so cool. People on divy bikes trying to peek in. It was amazing. So Lauren, you do this every year, but Adriana, would you want to go back and do this for us again? Of course I would. Yes. I mean Nate usually goes and I have to say Nate came to me. He goes, "Would you want to do the Met Gala cuz I have a scheduling conflict." And I said, "Oh, really? Wait, I didn't know that." Yes. Oh, he was the one that suggested me. So, this is Nate's thing. Okay. But if ever he's not available, I am here. Because I did it three years in a row for the show and by the end I was like, "Please get me off this side."

Really? Yes. I'll tell you why after the break. Adriana Diaz and Lauren Sherman.
