Today, Mariah and Earl are meeting a family who traveled from Southern California. People come to adopt dogs for different reasons, and trying to fill a void in their heart after losing their dog is one of them. Hi, guys. How's going? I'm Mariah. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you, too. Jenna, nice to meet you. Hi, Zoe. My name's Jenna. I'm from Southern California, and I brought my husband Dave and my daughter Zoe with me today. How far y'all come? Southern California. Back from my hood. All right. My family's extremely excited about being here today. Adoption is really close to our hearts because adopting our daughter was of such a huge, you know, benefit to my wife and
I. Super amazing experience, and obviously changed our lives. What's your past experience with dogs? We had a pit bull. You've had a Okay, so you've had a pit bull already. Our previous dog, her name was Amber. She was a pit bull mastiff mix. Uh we rescued her. She was about 5 months old at the time, um out of a really bad situation. Um she was really good, and she was super loyal. She was awesome. She was really protective, but like loving at the same time. They normally are. She would give him hugs.
It was the sweetest thing. When we lost her a little over a year ago, it was like losing a member of the family. And so, it was really hard to get through and get past. But now we feel like we're at a place where we're ready to have another family member. Why don't you guys tell us a little bit about what you're looking for in a dog and your lifestyle kind of? Not quite puppy stage. Somewhat out of that real excited, overly jumpy thing. Yeah, a good middle age. Yeah. We are looking for somebody who's not overly energetic, but can calm down, who's just good with kids and good with the family, um is good with other dogs.
How active are you guys? We're pretty mellow. Okay. We're at home. We like to take walks and things like that. Obviously, we need to connect with the dog. That spiritual, that physical, that just connection that you have with an animal. Other than that, we're hoping to be chosen. The first dog is a lot of dog sometimes, but he totally calms down once he gets his ya-yas out for a minute, he calms down. Harry was found by one of our employees wandering around her house, but he didn't have a microchip or anything else, so we actually have no idea what his story was before that.
Harry is, I mean, your average bouncy middle-aged pit bull. Just a sweet, loving guy. Thank you, dear. He was absolutely beautiful. I know, but you know. Harry's a beautiful dog, handsome, great smile when he's happy. Yeah. He's very excited, and um very excited. He's trying to compose himself, but it doesn't always work. He's trying to calm down. Harry just seemed like he was always ready to just be in your face and jump and run and play, and we didn't really ever see him calm down.
Easy. Even though Harry's a very sweet, loving dog, he gets pretty amped up, and I think it was just too much for this family. Next up is Quack. Quack was dropped off a couple years ago as a puppy, and we've had him ever since. He's just a really fun-loving dog, but we named him Quack because his feet look like they have webs on it, and I feel like his name kind of suits his personality really well. Over the last few months, Quack has actually been fostered with one of our employees, and he's doing great.
He's crate trained and house trained, which is why I think Quack would be a great fit for this family. Hello. Hi. Oh my goodness. Quack is a quack up. Thank you. Apparently has great manners. Quack was super playful and super like loving and affectionate, which was amazing. Hi. Will you lay down with us? Rowdy, but like in a loving way where he just wanted to be with you and be all over you and just be in with like with you.
Thank you. Very nice. The girl. Quack was kind of funny. He has these great eyes that you just whoa, like drawn in to him. I got to get more clean. He's very affectionate. Super friendly, uh good-looking dog. He cleaned out both of my ears for me, uh licked off all the extra food on my face. He doesn't know what personal space is. Little too much energy for us. I think if he had calmed down after the initial ear cleaning, it we might have been fine, but it's just a little too much.
Come on, Quackers. Even though the adopters seemed to think Quack was funny and he was sweet, he was just too up in their face, and I think they just need a dog that's a little bit more mature. You want to grab Magoo? Yeah. We decided to bring Magoo out, and if any dog, I guess, could kind of take over their heart, it would definitely be him. You got help on the way, buddy. Magoo was found by Suwi right near the rescue. He was really skinny, looked terrible, eating a bunch of garbage. Oh my god, this is terrible. His body was pretty much one big scab from skin infection and his allergies.
Extremely malnourished, he had no body weight on him. He's just in really, really bad condition. Come on, boy. Well, look at you. Sit. Good boy. Give me five. That's my dog. After Suwi and everyone's help, we got him nice and fat and healthy again, and getting his skin under control. He's also just a really laid-back dog, so I'm hoping his adopters like him. Magoo. Hi. Come on, bud. Hi, come here, baby.
Yeah, he's just a sweet dude. Magoo was super mellow, and he came right over. He wanted to just meet everybody. Gentle soul. He's great with other dogs. Mr. Magoo, he's got just really kind eyes. He's really mellow and laid-back. Um just wants to kind of be a cuddler and just kind of be there and let you pet him. Yeah, he's definitely um more on the mellow side. He's absolutely beautiful and just so sweet and super like just really calm, super cuddly, which is really awesome.
He seemed like a really cool, chill dog. Someone that we could take out in the public that would react well to people and other animals. He's just like this sweet, gentle giant. I love him. It seemed like with how mellow Magoo was, he's really won the family over, but sometimes you just don't know. What are you guys thinking? I think Magoo, actually. I love that dog a lot. All we had to do is look at each other, and we knew what we were thinking and feeling.
Yeah, it's just like me. Very like me, too. I think the first moment when he walked in and he came and like ran straight to me, and I knew from then. I looked at my mom, and I was like, this is the dog. Um all right, we'll walk with you guys out. I think just between the connection and the way he looks, I think that's what kind of really made the decision for him for us. All right, it was nice to meet you guys. Keep in contact. So nice to meet you. We want every dog at Villalobos to get a home, but looking at what Magoo has been through and what he looked like when he came in. It's a dream that he can possibly have a home in California. And hopefully, if everything goes well at the home check, Mr. Magoo will finally have his forever home.
