The Worst Airplane Seats You Should Always Avoid

An experienced traveler shares five airplane seats to avoid for a comfortable flight. The middle seat offers no armrest space and is cramped. The back row is near lavatories and galleys, with more turbulence. Bulkhead seats lack underseat storage and legroom. Seats near lavatories involve noise, smells, and awkward interactions. Galley seats have bright lights, food smells, and crew activity. Choosing the right seat can significantly improve your travel experience.

So, what are the seats in the plane that you should never pick? Hey there, fellow travelers. Mark here with Walters World. And I've spent the last 20 years traveling the world to bring you these videos and 40 plus years of seeing the world. And there's five seats on an airplane that I will never sit in because I know if I sit there, my trip is not going to start off in a good foot. Okay. And I think the first thing I want to talk about, and this is one thing I think we all can agree on before we go into different parts of the plane, there is one seat which is always the worst seat to get, and that is the middle seat. Cuz you know, if you're in the middle seat, whether it's a four

across or three across kind of thing, you are battling the whole time because the window personnel, they have the window they can lay on. The aisle personnel, they can lean out on the aisle and have some space, but if you're in the middle, you've got nowhere to go. And you spend the whole time fighting for those armrests. And yes, you in the middle, you're the one who's supposed to have those armrests, but not everybody knows that etiquette. But also, when you're in that middle seat, here's one of the worst parts. When you get the double man spread, you know, when the two people next to you start spreading their legs open like this and their knees starting to get into your side of

your seat and you get even more smooshed in there. So, it doesn't matter if you're in first class and you're in a company class or in stowage, the middle seat is always the worst seat. Okay? Okay, so I want to get that one out of the way and realize that our friends in the middle seat, they lost out and I feel sorry for them. So if you get stuck there, that sucks. All right, now let's look at different parts of the plane. Okay, I think the second of the worst places to sit on a plane is actually in the very back row. Why? You're like, Mark, it's in the back. There's not as many people. There's nobody behind you.

It should be okay. And the thing is, if you're in the very back, usually the lavator is right by there. Oo, smelly, but I'm going to talk about that later. or the galleys there where they're cooking, which again I'll talk about that later, but that back row can really suck. But also, if you're in the back row and you got tight connections, guess what? You're the last one off the plane. And for my friends who do not like turbulence, which you have to realize, if you're in the very back of the plane, that is where the turbulence is the worst. If you're not sure why, think about it. When you used to take your family road trips and your parents would drive over a speed bump, mom and dad in

the front didn't notice much. But you in the back, you know, as a kid, YOU'RE LIKE, "WA!" CUZ THIS it just accentuates that kind of bump. Okay, so if you don't like turbulence, don't sit in the back row. Now, the exact opposite thing some people say, "Oh, well then it must be great to be in the first row." No, that is the next of my worst places to sit on a plane because the first row of the plane, one thing is you have a bulkhead there. And this first row and bulkhead, like they kind of go together here, but that first row, it sucks because one, you don't have the underseat storage in front of your space, right? So you have to make sure you get your stuff up above, but also you have no room to

stretch your legs out, right? Cuz there's not that under seat there. So sometimes you don't have a ton of space. But the really tough thing is going back to the luggage or lack of luggage space. Cuz if you're the first seat, you know, if you're flying in Spain, it's like when they get on the plane, they put their bags in right away. They don't wait to get to row 20. They just put their right in row one or row two. And if you're in that first row, maybe you're going to have to go back to row five or six to put your bags up above. and nobody's letting you to go back there to get it when it's time to get out, which can be very frustrating.

Also, when you're in the first row, a lot of times maybe the galley is going to be right in front of you or again, the bathroom, the lavator is going to be right in front of you. So, you have all those issues there. So, yeah, that first row may not seem as special as it does before. So, now when you walk past the first class person, you might be like, "Ah, well, at least I get bin space." Ha. All right. Now, the next worst place I have to sit on a plane, I've kind of talked about this before with these other ones, but really any seat next to the lavatory because you know what?

People go to the lavatory to do lavatory things. So, you know what they're doing, right? And if you're sitting there and you've got that seat by the lavatory, there's always that line of people waiting to go to the bathroom, right? And your head is right here and their butt is right there getting ready to do butt things in the bathroom and you're like, "Hey." and you're just like, "Please don't crop dust me. Just go to the bathroom and go." And there's always the weird conversations or awkward conversations or awkward eye contact. You're like, "Hey, how's it going?" They're like, "Hey, yeah, I'm just going to go take a deuce in here." And then they go in and

they come out 20 minutes later and you're like, "I know what you did in there. I could hear it and I could smell it." Oh. So that's why by the lavatory, not a very enjoyable place to be. And then the fifth place I never sit when I'm on a plane is next to the galley. Why? It's not cuz I don't like the flight attendants. The flight attendants are awesome. But the thing is, if you're by the galley, one, the flight attendants are working there. They're preparing the meals. They're getting the drinks ready. So, you have the smells from all the food all the time. You have the light because the lights are on in there. So, they have to work and have that. You get people that like to go

back there, you know, like the yoga mom who wants to go and practice yoga when they're, you know, on the plane kind of stuff or people just like to go back there and chitchat or people who just like let their kids roam wild and they go to the galley. So, it's not really a quiet, relaxing place cuz there's so much activity there. There's light there and the smells that are there. And that just makes it a bit more difficult to enjoy your flight. So, these are my five worst places to sit on a plane. What are your worst places to sit on a plane? Cuz honestly, as long as you get there safely, the seats are fine, but these are ones I really try to avoid whenever I do fly. And don't worry, I have a

video that's about the best place to sit in economy cuz you don't have to buy a first class ticket to get a first class seat. Anyway, that's another video you can watch over here. And I wish you all the best. I want to say thank you to all our patrons on Patreon and our members on YouTube who help make honest, fun videos like this possible.
