Beirut Residents Return to Homes Destroyed by Israeli Airstrikes

Following Israeli airstrikes in Beirut's southern suburbs, thousands of residents are returning to find approximately 200 buildings destroyed, including homes and businesses. The attacks targeted areas with Hezbollah connections, with Human Rights Watch calling them potential war crimes. Despite the destruction, some residents are attempting to rebuild and restore normalcy after the ceasefire.

Lebanese authorities say about 200 buildings have been destroyed here in Beirut's southern suburbs by Israeli air strikes since the start of last month. This is what remains of one of them. On the ground floor were small businesses, a laundry, shops, a cafe. Livelihoods completely destroyed. There was also a branch of Hezbollah's microfinance organization that Israel says it was targeting. Human Rights Watch says targeting it is a war crime. People depend on it for getting small amounts of credit. This is the main road leading into the southern suburbs and it's busy with people who want to come home.

We were born here. We grew up here and we will die here until our last breath. We left our homes with our dignity and we will never accept to be oppressed. As long as Israel attacks us, we can't trust them. They say we have negotiations, but Israel's unreliable. We're coming back and we'll never leave here again. Thousands of homes have been destroyed across this neighborhood. There were a couple of dozen apartments in this building reduced to rubble. Even the neighbors' apartments, several of them destroyed by the force of the blast. But following the ceasefire, the owners of this cafe trying to get it open again. People say it's a neighborhood meeting point here in the
