Kestrel Parents Welcome First Hatchling of the Season

Wild kestrels Apollo and Athena welcome their first chick of the season. The male briefly broods the newborn to keep it warm while the female takes a break. The chick hatched on May 3rd, and the mother eats the eggshell to restore nutrients. This event is part of a live nest cam documenting the hatching of six eggs.
