In this edition of One Weekly, we put the spotlight on Seneagalles meastar Rugrug Umar Khan and his epic journey to becoming the one heavyweight MMA champion of the world. Welcome to One Weekly. An undefeated champion in the Seneagalles wrestling style known as Lutc for pay, Umar Khan earned the title of the future of African mixed martial arts. To fulfill this prophecy, he joined one in January 2021. He immediately made a huge impact by finishing Alain the Panther Galani in the first round. That same year, he aimed to repeat his stoppage performance when he squared off against Patrick Big Swiss Schmid inside the Singapore indoor stadium for one on TNT one. Nobody expects this to
go the full three rounds. Contrary to our towel, the tape does have the height advantage over Umar, the man they call term for a man with mystical powers. pulse in the circle. Schmeid will want to keep Rugrat on the outside. So, you can immediately see Speed starting to close that distance and trying to touch up Rugr. He's very aggressive in his striking style. He looks to plant that big right hand on his chin, but he's got to be careful of these big takedowns coming from Rogue, especially inside that clinch. If Schmid throws the kicks, he's got to pull them back quickly as he did there against the outside link kick and not leave the leg hanging out for Rogro to lock onto jab there from the Synagogles Warrior.
I do like the way Rogue is circling to his right and speeds coming at him, but now he's putting the hands on Swiss. Big uppercut, right cross uppercuts again from Rugrug. House on fire here in THE FIRST ROUND AND IN TROUBLE, MAN. LOOK AT THESE PAWS THAT ROOF Marane is putting on right now. Dominating inside that clinch. This could be the beginning of the end. This is a rug rock territory. It's all Kaneville here trying to work the ground and pound again standing ground and pound from Rugrat does not want to be here inside of 1 minute 15 of the opening round. And he's in all sorts of bother. the big Swiss.
BUT SWISS LOOKS, you can see, he looks composed. He's trying to keep himself covered up and he's also moving. He's not staying still. Schmidt is a champion kickboxer does also have a background in mixed martial arts. Amethyst trug devastating right hand. Muhammad Salman right on top of the action. He may stop it soon. position by quarterback goes 2 and 0. Who can stop this behemoth? After back-to- back first round knockout wins, the Seneagalles star faced Russia's Batraz Gazv in September 2022. Tonight, Umar Khan welcomes Batraz Gazv to the global stage. Rugrug introduced Senagalles wrestling to the world in his 2021 debut.
In search of his third win inside the one circle, Khan looks to cement himself as a top heavyweight in the division. Batraz Gazv makes his debut in one. This undefeated Russian has the imposing size and freestyle wrestling skills to stop Khan's run and heavyweight gold. There are no guarantees in the heavyweight division, but one thing is for sure. Umar Khan versus Batraz Gaza will be a massive encounter. Khan came out aggressively and set the tone with his boxing. That uppercut from Rrook. Another uppercut from the City. Gaz momentarily in trouble. Shoots down again.
Umar Khan continued to look unstoppable in round two. The corner of Gaza saying they want speed. The corner of Rugr telling him Gazv's tired. He doesn't want to be here. Go to the body. Cautioning here from Herb Dean about those fingers being open. Second round, set for three scores an overall contest. But Dragon, I'm impressed by this version of Rub so far. Yeah, so far so good. You know, he's able to defend the takedown, utilize some new striking skills. I think Herb Dean was warning him about the fence grab. You're not allowed to grab the fence and if he does it again, I do believe he's going to be issued a yellow card. I think that's
what Herb [clears throat] Dean was saying. With a lead hand here that left high kick again's got big power and everything back on his back. Enormous good take down defense so far. Let's see if can suck in that leg. Good balance showcased by Rugrug as Gaza tries to pull in. And you can see he has the knee inside, but Rugrug's just got really good balance. Gaz's trying for that single leg, but he might give up his back here in the process. Let's see if Omar Khan can separate these hands and work his way to the back. He likes this turtle position because he does big damage with the ground and pound from right here. The hammer for strikes down coming down from who's got the 34 lb advantage over Desire.
Z's head is exposed TO THE PUNISHMENT HERE AS HE CONTINUES to clutch onto this single leg. But what does he do with the dragon? What did he do with He's trying to suck the knee in, which he's got, but he's got to turn the corner. He's got to try to transition to a double leg because Omar Khan's got really good balance. See what he's trying to do. K's trying to circle to the back right here for that turtle position. Good job to get to his back, utilize the wall. Maybe he can work his way up from this position. Relax. One minute. Oh, he gives up. Second round of three. Full mount off road now.
Bad spot. This 30 lb right here is going to be important. I'd like to see Gaziah release the double grip that he's got on the body, but I think he's just kind of preventing the ground and pound from coming. He's got to start pushing down on the legs and get back into half guard. AND IT'S A HIGH MOUNT here from Rrook. All that weight, all that pressure on the bottom of THE CHEST OF GAZ. SOME ROUND AND ROUND NOW FROM A HOMELESS RAIN and it does get the win. Pounds his way to victory as he said he would. On May 15th, Umar Khan returns to action to defend the one heavyweight MMA world title in a rematch against Anatoli Malakin at the Inner Circle.
Still to come, Umar Khan's epic journey to make history for Sagal. Welcome back to One Weekly. Since arriving in one in 2021, Umar Khan always appeared destined for greatness. With two dominant years since his debut, Khan attempted to extend his momentum by facing the biggest opponent of his career, Brazilian legend Marcus Bucha Almeida. Rugrug overwhelmed Bucha with his striking power. There's a left hook for Rugrug. And now he's pounded away on the right side of the head of Almeida. The guard is one of Buchets's best positions though. up kicks his way. OH.
OH, WHAT A KICK THERE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HEAD OF BUCHETTA. IN round two, Almeida secured multiple takedowns only for Khan to showcase his improved defense. Pulls guard. Khan is busting up Betta. Betchum had moments of brilliance, but then Khan was able to turn things back in his favor. The fight turned into a slugfest in the final round. Puchetcha did say heading into this fight, I'm going to brawl a little bit and then I'm going to take him down.
Mitch, I don't think he expected to brawl AS MUCH AS HE HAS AGAINST KHAN. YEAH, RAY, I don't know if he expected this much resistance on the takedowns. Lucha has been able to blast double leg pretty much everybody that stood in front of him, but Khan has given him really good defense. I think he's been successful on only one of the takedowns that he's attempted and all the other maybe three or four of them have been stuffed by Khan. So, there's a lot of resistance coming back from the blue corner right now on at least the takedowns.
Well, I'll tell you the lesson that both these guys could take out of this match is they're going to question how they are training their conditioning moving forward because this is 15 minutes of both of these guys pushing a lot of weight around. So, is this a must finish for Bettcha against Khan here in this third and final round? Absolutely not. And this is a global MMA and in these MMA rules, we judge a fight in its entirety. So, you know, Betta now has the back here. He could do a lot of damage and end up winning this fight even if he is unable to get the submission. So, it is possible, you know, Khan is not that far ahead on the scorecards in my opinion that he needs
the finish to win. Oh, wow. Betta gets peeled off the top by Khan. That was Nobody really gets out of that position with Buchcha, but they're also slippery. You know, they're a little bit fatigued. Didn't quite have the grips that he wanted to, but Betta did a beautiful job on that taked down when he didn't quite have the double leg, but to duck under, scoot around, and take the back. Well, Mitch, it was clear that Khan, his entire team, they said he hasn't even realized HIS FULL POTENTIAL. BIG RIGHT HAND BY BETSA THERE as we near the three-minute mark in the third and final round.
Ah, Betta up on the single leg. Pulls guard again, but runs right into some hammer fists thrown by Khan when he shot in on that leg and had that single was really in my opinion do or die there to either retreat from that or come around, get that underhook, come around the backside, try to get the back rolling under underneath for in this half guard position. You just both of these guys are tired. you're too tired to execute any kind of reversal on a on an opponent rug size like to elevate that kind of weight and get that reversal is very difficult at this stage of the fight not just with fatigue but with the fact that they're both sweating they're both slippery and especially in the previous rounds we saw some beautiful float overs from
Rugrug when he was elevated in those positions so his balance and awareness of himself in space is remarkably sound. Yeah, thinking about this, it's like one of these two guys, whoever wins this match and it's really running away from Bucha at this point in time. He's got two minutes. And back to your question, Ray before we're at that point now where Bucha may need to actually finish this fight. Like, I don't think he can get enough done in 2 minutes if he was to completely dominate. But the question I'm asking myself at this point is that one of these two guys may end up meeting Malakin in a five round match. And I know that Malakin has the gas to go those five rounds.
Well, you know that Malakin, the world champion, is watching this one intently as we have 100 seconds to go in the fight. Good control from Khan on top here. Utilizing that ground and pound, controlling the handcuff positions. I SAW YOU. NO. YES. GET UP. I will disqualify you. Don't tell me what I saw. Come on. Stand up. Herb Dean Wow. Herb Dean admonishing Khan. And now Buch has got an OPPORTUNITY HERE.
THEY'RE GOING TOE TO TOE. WHAT [screaming] A WAR HERE IN BANGKOK. IT'S ONE FIGHT NIGHT 13. Knows that it's do or die right now and he's just got to put everything on the line. He's catching some punches, but he's delivering some punches as well. These things are landing. He's got to get this topside position. He's got a minute to work here to finish this match. He is in a position where he needs to, in my opinion, finish this match. Omar Khan cannot skate this out. If he's able to get through this minute, he will likely win this decision. Herb Dean was warning them because grabbed the shorts again. He grabbed the shorts again. That's going to be a yellow card right there.
Well, now Bacha has 40 seconds to try to turn things around. This is the most adversity he's dealt with. AN OVERHAND RIGHT OVER THE TOP FOR KHAN. What a battle here at the historic Lumpini Boxing Stadium. An iconic venue known for its litany of historical showdowns. CAN KHAN GET THE BIGGEST WIN OF HIS CAREER AND RISE UP THE RANKINGS WITH THE WIN OVER THE 17 TIME BJJ WORLD CHAMPION BUCHETA?
Khan secured a world title shot after his masterclass performance against Marcus Almeida. In November 2024, he faced then three division champ Anatoli Malakin for the heavyweight MMA gold. Undefeated wrestling monster and he is a three division world champion is Anatoli Malik. to Malik 100% finish rate. THE BEST HEAVYWEIGHT ON THE PLANET. WOW. HE'S OUT. He has been unstoppable. MY DREAM REAL. [screaming] A superstar in Africa, Seneagalles heavyweight wrestling champion.
The man must the hulking humanity from Sagal. Oh, HE CAUGHT IT. THIS ONE IS OVER. Don't fight. In the opening round, Rugrug showcased his brute strength by dragging the defending champ to the canvas. He's incredibly solid and INCREDIBLY HARD TO DEAL WITH AS ANATOLI GETS PICKED UP AND PUT DOWN. In the next round, Khan displayed his striking arsenal. Malakin returned fire with a few haymakers. Rug showing OFF A CHIN. BIG RIGHT HAND AGAIN. THREE RIGHT HANDS FOR MALIK. MALIK LOOKING TO POUR IT ON. Khan remained relentless as he closed in on making history for his country. And like you said, his unbeaten record and his 100% finishing rate
hanging the balance along with that belt. No question about it. Fifth and final round for the one heavyweight MMA World Championship between Anatoli Mullikin and more Rugran. That champion Mullikin looking to REMAIN UNDEFEATED. OH, KHAN CLIP MULLIKIN. NO, THAT'S AND NOW KHAN looking to pour it on here, but Mullikin responds, but that's significant. The bout is judged as a whole. Very important, Ray. One big 25minute round. Umar Khan, nice little duck under right there. Changes the direction. Presses Anatoli up against the corner. Now he's trying to swim in for that pummel so he can change the position as well as Rugrug continues
to press. So Khan landed a left but Malikin or Malikin slipped as he was throwing a left. So that is how it goes in the sense that Malikin was throwing a left and then he slipped. So thus that's exactly what happened. So it wasn't the fact that Rugrug landed something significant but how quickly these guys can unload upon each other here. Mitch. Yeah, but that was timing. It was good timing. Happened to be right. Now, the judges ringside don't have the benefit of instant replay or the monitors in front of him. So, that one could score in the judg's eyes as at least being an effective strike. And in a fight that's this close, it's could matter.
Herb Dean pushing the actions, creating separation. All right now, Rugrug the challenger looking to dethrone the undefeated champion, Anatoli Malikin here in Bangkok at 169. You saw those initial takedowns in the early part of the fight, Ray, but we haven't seen anybody having success with takedowns. They've kind of neutralized each other in this position in those clinch positions. Could one big takedown really catch the eye of the judges as we approach under three minutes? Well, now Mullikin driving into Khan, the challenger.
This work. We are approaching the midweight point of the fifth round. Hey, relax. And right now, Malikin driving forward as Khan trying to evade the taked down. Mitch, good control right there from Rugrug to squat down a little bit to get a little bit better leverage on the under hook. Herb Dean prize these two apart and we get back to the center of the squared circle. What does the final two minutes have in store for us? The one heavyweight MMA world championship Malikin the champion putting his title on the line against a very hungry and determined challenger in Umar Rugra Khan again in the clinch they go as Mullikin looking for a takedown here once again
but Khan holding him off once Again, under 90 seconds remaining. Khan squatting deep into the corner as Anatoli gets one hand below the hips, but Khan able to pry him back up. Herb Dean forcing the hand back inside the ring ropes and totally butcher right back outside. We are nearing one minute to go in this fifth and final round. We are into the 25th minute between the champion Mullikin and the challenger Khan. And Mullikin looking for that opening. But Khan cannot fall asleep at the wheel because Malikin can turn out your lights at any one moment. And these two heavyweights have during parts of this matchup tested each other's chin. Under 30 seconds remaining
here in the fight. Will Mullikin retain or will we see a new heavyweight world champion this time from Sagal as Anatoli Mullikin and Omar Rug Rakhan CONTINUE. OH, BIG RIGHT HAND FOLLOWED BY A LEFT HOOK BY MLLIKIN. But Khan took him. He took both shots and a kick by the challenger. And we go to the decision as Anatoli Mullikin with his hand raised believing that victory is eminent and will look to preserve his undefeated record. But that 100% finish rate goes by the wayside and now it's about remaining undefeated and retaining the 26 lbs of gold. your winner by split decision and [screaming] new undisputed one heavyweight MFA CHAMPION OF the world.
Rugrug Umar Khan etched his name in the history books by becoming the first African one world champion. He returned to Sagal and received a hero's welcome greeted by tens of thousands of fans in the street of Dar at the inner circle on May 15th. He aims to make it 2-0 against Anatoli Malakin when they square off once again for the one heavyweight MMA world title.
